RAF Church of St Clement Danes to dedicate the Roll of Honour for the Royal Auxiliary Air Force, and to lay-up the Force’s first Sovereign’s Colour

Apologies for the short notice!!

On Sunday, 28th October 2012, a Service will be held at the RAF Church of St Clement Danes to dedicate the Roll of Honour for the Royal Auxiliary Air Force, and to lay-up the Force’s first Sovereign’s Colour. The Service is being arranged by the Royal Auxiliary Air Force Foundation whose Patron, HRH The Duke of Gloucester, will be in attendance.

The Foundation is a relatively new organisation, born out of the Memorial Trust that created the Auxiliaries’ Memorial at Alrewas. It is finding its feet as regards contacts within the RAuxAF – in particular the bodies associated with it, such as Associations, SSAFA, RAFA, and so on. Their initial invitation list only extended to the current RAuxAF and a few other notables, but with no knowledge of, or addresses for, the other parties just listed, their invitation list is shorter than they desired.

I have been contacted by the Foundation’s Group Captain Richard Mighall, once the Inspector of the RAuxAF. He has only just become aware of the limited circulation of knowledge of this event outside the immediate RAuxAF. On his behalf, I am writing to those of you near to London, or with a specific interest in this event, to invite you to apply for an invitation to the Service. I cannot give him your names and addresses without prior permission, but I can collate all your responses, and tell him who and where you are. I need to know names by the end of September. If I have not heard from you by 1st October, then I shall assume that you do not wish to be invited to attend. Richard apologises for this rather disconnected approach, but freely admits that they have to start somewhere, and hoped that the word would spread. It hasn’t, but their intention is to make themselves better acquainted with groups related to the parent RAuxAF in the near future.

Dress would be Uniform, Morning Dress or a suit as appropriate – all with Insignia of Orders, Decorations and Medals.

Please respond by 8th October 2012 at the very latest.

Anyone who wishes to attend should contact Peter Garwood in the first instance:
